LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Dale Silvertooth says his weight used to keep him from simple every day activities. Now he's able to do things he used to think impossible. And Dale says his new-found lifestyle and weight loss is something his wife has been waiting for for more than 30 years.
"I had just gotten rock bottom with my physical health. I weighed 400 pounds. I couldn't do anything. And clothes weren't fitting," explained Dale.
55-year-old Dale Silvertooth says even the simple things were a challenge.
Dale said, "Just trying to bend over and tie my shoes in the morning left me exhausted."
Dale knew it was now or never.
"I was in desperation and I needed to do something really quick or, you know, have a very short life span," Dale said matter of factly.
So he decided to get educated and get fit.
Dale said, "It's not going to happen by just thinking about it. That's what I used to hope, is that I would just melt away one day."
After months of eating healthy and working out, Dale's lost 85 pounds and that made the impossible... possible.
Dale said, "Recently my wife and I in October was in the Rose Festival 5K run. Which I can't run, but we could walk it and that was just a tremendous goal that a year ago, we never thought possible."
Although Dale says the physical changes have been encouraging, it's the psychological changes that have impacted him most.
"I like myself," Dale explained. "I used to have a hard time doing that because when I would really take a good look at myself, I really hated myself."
Dale truly believes that if he can make the changes, you can, too.
Dale said, "If a meat-and-potato guy like me can do it, anybody can."
Dale says since losing the weight, his arthritic knees have been giving him fewer problems and he no longer has to walk with a cane.
